Search, date and amount ranges, category and account filters, status and sorting. How to slice your transactions in WIMM and bookmark the exact view.

Listen to this article

"Where did that charge go?" is one of the most common questions a finance app has to answer, and the answer should take seconds. The WIMM Transactions page is built for exactly this. It has a deep set of filters that stack together, so you can go from your full transaction list down to one precise slice ("all dining over $50 last month") without writing a single formula. And because every filter lives in the URL, that slice is something you can refresh, bookmark, or share.

Start with search

At the top is a text search that filters as you type. It is debounced, so it waits a beat for you to finish typing before running, which keeps the list from flickering on every keystroke. Type part of a merchant name or a description and the list narrows to match. For a lot of "where did that go" moments, this single box is all you need.

Narrow by date and amount

When search alone is too broad, the date range and amount range pin things down.

The date range limits results to a window you choose, so "last month" or "the week of that trip" becomes a quick selection. The amount range takes a minimum and a maximum, separately, so you can ask for everything over $50, everything under $10, or everything between two numbers. Combine the two and you are already most of the way to a precise answer.

Filter by category, account, type, and status

The deeper filters let you carve by the meaning of a transaction, not just its date and size.

Categories is a multi-select, so you can pick several at once, and it includes an Uncategorized option for hunting down the transactions that still need a home. The picker is the same hierarchical category tree used elsewhere in WIMM, so it feels familiar and lets you pick a parent or a specific child.

Accounts is also multi-select, so you can look at one card, one joint account, or any combination.

Type filters to expense, income, or all. Status filters across all, pending, posted, and transfer, which is handy when you want to ignore pending charges or isolate transfers between your own accounts. There is also a recurring only toggle for zeroing in on subscriptions and regular bills.

Sort, paginate, and stack it all together

You can sort by date, amount, or merchant, in either direction, so the biggest charges or the latest activity float to the top on demand. Results paginate so long histories stay fast.

The real power is that every filter combines. Stack a category, an amount minimum, and a date range at once and WIMM applies all of them together. That is how a vague worry turns into a concrete list you can actually read.

Every view lives in the URL

Here is the small feature that quietly changes how you use the page. Every filter you set is written into the URL. Refresh the page and your view survives. Copy the URL and you have a link to that exact slice of your money, ready to bookmark or share.

Tip

Build a view you check often, like dining over $50 this month, then bookmark the URL. Next time you want it, the bookmark reopens the exact filtered list, no clicking required. It is a tiny habit that saves a surprising amount of fiddling.

How this compares to other tools

A spreadsheet can answer these questions, but only after you write the formulas and keep them current. Mint's filtering was always on the shallow side, fine for a quick glance and frustrating the moment you wanted something specific. WIMM's edge is small but genuinely useful: the filters go deep, they stack, and the result is a shareable, bookmarkable URL rather than a one-off view you have to rebuild every time.

Free for everyone

Filtering and search are core to using your own data, so they are free for everyone. There is no Premium gate on finding your transactions. The full filter set, the URL-shareable views, and the sorting all work on every account, on every tier.

Try it on the demo

The demo opens straight into the transactions view with sample data, so you can stack a few filters and watch the URL change as you go: app.wimm.money/demo?mode=transactions. When you are ready, sign in and start slicing your own history.
